Mines Rd

I find Mines Rd very surprising: while you are still in the San Francisco Bay Area you find remoteness and back country here. Mines Rd starts at the outskirts of Livermore at Tesla Rd. The first kilometers go through vineyards and if you turn back you can see Mt Diablo in the distance and the Windmills on the hills North of Livermore.

You right into the valley and after 5 km, you turn right staying on Mines Rd. The road continues straight ahead as Del Valle Rd. After another kilometer, you cross the creek Arroyo Mocho and the climb starts: in 7 km you gain around 350 m.

Then the road levels and you keep going for miles and miles, gaining some elevation. Finally you have to climb a couple of peaks reaching almost 900 m and than it's all downhill to Junction Cafe (660) m.

From the Junction, you can continue to Mt Hamilton, or turn you can turn East into Del Puerto Canyon Rd to Patterson.
